Strathmore hosts EuroCHRIE Conference

The Strathmore Centre for Tourism and Hospitality (CTH) together with Saxion University of Applied Sciences Netherlands and University College of Northern Denmark will host the 35th conference of the European Federation – Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education (EuroCHRIE) on 23rd-26thOctober 2017.

EuroCHRIE is a professional association of hospitality and tourism educators from Europe, Middle East and Africa. It is one of the federations under the International CHRIE.

For the first time, the EuroCHRIE family comes to Africa! The annual conference has always been held in Europe for many years. In a move to embrace Africa and the Middle East, the EuroCHRIE Board decided to hold its 35thconference in Nairobi.

The board members held its spring board meeting in Strathmore University on 1st March 2017 attended by member representatives from different countries: USA, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Netherlands, France, England, and Kenya. Joy Goopio, former CTH Director, is a member of EuroCHRIE Board as Area Consultant for East Africa.

CTH students served the board members during meals, entertained them with songs and toured them around campus. These students will further interact with students from Saxion Netherlands and UCN Denmark who will assist in organizing the conference in October.

The theme for the 2017 conference “Reach the Unreached, Touch the Untouched” is chosen to symbolize the unexploited potential that the hospitality and tourism industry contains.

The conference organizers – Joy (Strathmore), Birgitte (UCN) and Jan (Saxion) – welcome you to EuroCHRIE 2017 Conference in Nairobi!

Pre-conference workshops will be held in Strathmore University and main conference will be in Radisson Blu Hotel.
